O'Neil She was still in high school times when she took part in the auditions, volunteered for Canadian Idol's 3rd season in the beginning of 2005. The quality of her singing impressed judges, and so she was voted into an audition in the 100th place. O'Neil was praised highly by the judges. However, she experienced major losses during the top 10 weeks and Top 9 of the Finals as she fell to the bottom 3 and bottom 2 in both cases. The judges were surprised by her performance and suggested viewers choose contestants who sang well like Melissa. O'Neil, who had been consistently giving stellar performance since then, never fell below the top three. The judge Werner was confident, following another two incredible performances, that O'Neil would win of her Canadian Idol competition, as well as the first woman and the youngest contestant in history, following the September 7, 2005 finals. O'Neil was immediately congratulated by Canadian Premier Paul Martin for winning Canadian Idol.
